After the Mukden Incident in 1931, the United Anti-Japanese Army, under the leadership of the CCP,started an active opposition against the Japanese invaders. Though poorly equipped, the patriots fought the Japanese in the mountains and along the rivers.
Benxi was a theater of operations of the First Division of the First Army commanded by General Yang Jingyu, who later is acclaimed a national hero. Now we can trace the foot steps of those who died for the country in the Museum of Northeast United Anti-Japanese Army, visit the “Site of West Expedition” to remember the Great Victory on the ridge of Motian, and listen to the national anthem in the Memorial Museum of Northeast United Anti-Japanese Army.
Time races by and history drifts away from us, but what the patriots did will always remain in our memory. The local government has constructed the museums in response to the need of the younger generation, who are determined to inherit the heroes’ spirit, the red genes, and above all the red tradition. Therefore Benxi is the first choice for you to take the red road once taken by their heroes.
