常有六兄弟;

大哥:我的家族六兄弟,生性就愛提建議,我最愛should和would,就用它們提建議。

【解讀】用“You / I should(would)...”,提建議時表示“你(我)應該……”。如:

You should/would write him a letter.你應該給他寫一封信。

What should I do?我該怎樣做?

Maybe you should say you are sorry. 或許你應該道歉。

二哥:我有一個小武器,專用“Shall...?”來提建議,“要不要我們(我)……(做某事)?”好好牢記在心里。

【解讀】“Shall we (I)...?” 是表示自己準備做某事或建議與對方一起做某事,與漢語中的“我們(我)……(做某事)好嗎?”或“要不要我們(我)……(做某事)?”相當。如:

Shall we start at once?我們馬上開始好嗎?

Its cold outside. Shall I close the window?外面寒冷,要不要我把窗戶關上?

Shall I get you some ice cream?要不要我給你來一些冰淇淋?

三哥:我用“Lets...”提建議,直截了當表心意;若在句末加上shall we,語氣變得委婉又客氣。

【解讀】祈使句Lets...也可以表示提出建議,它表達的是一種直截了當?shù)慕ㄗh,有時為使句子的語氣變得客氣、委婉一些,在句子末尾加上一個簡短的shall we問句。如:

Lets arrive there at half past seven.咱們七點半到那兒吧。

Lets go to the Beach Park School, shall we?我們?nèi)ズ┕珗@學校,好嗎?

Lets read The World of Junior Middle School Students,shall we?我們讀《初中生世界》雜志,好嗎?

四哥:想提建議張開口,“Why not...?”我擁有,表達認識或看法,對方答復解釋夠。

【解讀】當用Why not...?(相當于Why dont you...?)這一反問方式提出建議,是表達自己對某種事情的某種認識或看法,希望得到對方明確的答復或解釋。如:

—Why not go at ten to eleven?為什么不在十點五十分去?

—All right. 行。

—Why not buy a yo-yo?為什么不買悠悠球?

—I have no money for it.我沒有錢。

實際上Why not ...?與Why dont you...?相當。

—Why dont you come a little earlier?你為什么不早點兒來呢?

—Im busy these days.這幾天我很忙。

五哥:had better 是“ 最好……”,婉轉(zhuǎn)建議莫忘掉,縮寫形式為d better,口語better應知曉。

【解讀】用had better(“ 最好……”)(縮寫為d better)句式提出婉轉(zhuǎn)的建議。如:

Youd better be here early.你最好早點兒到。

Wed better not be late again.我們最好別再遲到。

在現(xiàn)代英語中,常常用better作為口語形式代替had better。如:“You better be careful,” I said.“你最好小心一點。”我說。

六弟:我是小弟弟,使用“What about...?”提建議,“What about...?”是“怎樣?”,“How about...?”和它是同義。

【解讀】有時也用“What about...?”句式來表示建議,它相當于What do you think of ...?

What about...?可以用How about...?來代替。如:

What about going out for a walk?外出散散步如何?

How about this green skirt?這條綠裙子怎么樣?
