摘要:詞匯學(xué)習(xí)貫穿英語(yǔ)學(xué)習(xí)的始終,如何提高詞匯學(xué)習(xí)的效率是語(yǔ)言教育工作者一直關(guān)注的焦點(diǎn),而詞匯附帶習(xí)得是當(dāng)前研究的一個(gè)熱點(diǎn)。本文把英語(yǔ)影視欣賞選修課程和詞匯的附帶習(xí)得有機(jī)結(jié)合起來(lái),重點(diǎn)探討了如何引導(dǎo)學(xué)生進(jìn)行詞匯附帶習(xí)得。

一、詞匯附帶習(xí)得提出的背景
根據(jù)《英語(yǔ)課程標(biāo)準(zhǔn)》,語(yǔ)言知識(shí)目標(biāo)中的八級(jí)要求是:學(xué)會(huì)使用3300個(gè)左右的單詞和400-500個(gè)習(xí)慣用語(yǔ)或固定搭配。而九級(jí)的要求則更高。生詞量的急劇增大,使學(xué)生和教師的壓力倍增,傳統(tǒng)的機(jī)械性記憶單詞的方法已無(wú)法讓學(xué)生達(dá)到《英語(yǔ)課程標(biāo)準(zhǔn)》要求。近年來(lái),隨著多媒體和網(wǎng)絡(luò)技術(shù)在語(yǔ)言教學(xué)中的廣泛應(yīng)用,英文影視教學(xué)逐漸受到重視,是促進(jìn)詞匯學(xué)習(xí)的一種新途徑。
二、英文影視欣賞課程和詞匯附帶習(xí)得的理論依據(jù)
1. 英文影視欣賞課程
英文影視欣賞課程是通過(guò)對(duì)經(jīng)典英文影視的賞析,介紹相關(guān)背景,講解重點(diǎn)詞匯和句型,模仿經(jīng)典臺(tái)詞和剖析影片所表現(xiàn)的主題,旨在培養(yǎng)學(xué)生審美情趣,開(kāi)拓學(xué)生視野,提高在真實(shí)語(yǔ)境中的聽(tīng)說(shuō)能力和交際能力,加深他們對(duì)英美文化社會(huì)的了解。
2. 詞匯附帶習(xí)
該理論是由Nagy and Herman (1985)提出,是近20年來(lái)出現(xiàn)在應(yīng)用語(yǔ)言學(xué)研究領(lǐng)域的新名詞。詞匯附帶性習(xí)得(IVA)是指學(xué)習(xí)者在完成其他學(xué)習(xí)任務(wù)時(shí)同時(shí)出現(xiàn)的認(rèn)知活動(dòng),在詞匯學(xué)習(xí)過(guò)程中,學(xué)習(xí)者可以通過(guò)聽(tīng)、說(shuō)、讀、寫(xiě)等活動(dòng)附帶地習(xí)得詞匯。
在本文中,筆者想結(jié)合本校開(kāi)展的英語(yǔ)選修課——經(jīng)典英文影視欣賞,來(lái)談?wù)勗谟⑽碾娪暗挠^(guān)看中如何關(guān)注詞匯的附帶習(xí)得并指導(dǎo)學(xué)生運(yùn)用及進(jìn)行相關(guān)的評(píng)價(jià)。
三、英文影視欣賞中詞匯附帶習(xí)得的原則
1. 材料選取
電影中的臺(tái)詞對(duì)白常常出現(xiàn)英語(yǔ)為本族語(yǔ)者日常生活中經(jīng)常使用的句型、詞匯以及新的流行語(yǔ),所以往往比現(xiàn)成的教科書(shū)更能夠及時(shí)、準(zhǔn)確地傳播以英語(yǔ)為母語(yǔ)的人群的表達(dá)習(xí)慣。因此,教師應(yīng)根據(jù)學(xué)生的實(shí)際情況,選擇發(fā)音較為清晰、語(yǔ)言難度適中、符合學(xué)生學(xué)習(xí)興趣和教學(xué)要求的影視作品。
2. 教學(xué)方式
傳統(tǒng)的詞匯教學(xué)是孤立的。學(xué)生只有死記硬背這一種習(xí)得方式,使他們感覺(jué)非常困難,而且總是背了就忘,積極性大大受挫。而在英文影視欣賞課程,具有下列優(yōu)勢(shì):“一是詞匯習(xí)得是在語(yǔ)境中進(jìn)行的,能夠使學(xué)習(xí)者對(duì)詞匯的用法和意義理解得更深刻;二是詞匯習(xí)得效率會(huì)更高;三是詞匯學(xué)習(xí)個(gè)性化,因?yàn)榱?xí)得的詞匯取決于學(xué)習(xí)者所選擇的語(yǔ)言材料?!?/p>
四、英文影視欣賞中詞匯習(xí)得、內(nèi)化
以下筆者以本校英語(yǔ)選修課程《Forrest Gump經(jīng)典賞析與模仿》為例來(lái)講講詞匯附帶習(xí)得、內(nèi)化。
1. 英文影視欣賞中詞匯的習(xí)得
(1)利用語(yǔ)境猜測(cè)詞義
在影片(00:01:40-00:09:00)中,Mrs.Gump和小學(xué)校長(zhǎng)有一段關(guān)于Forrest Gump是否是一名正常孩子的討論(材料1)。在欣賞這一段對(duì)話(huà)時(shí),學(xué)生的講義上會(huì)重點(diǎn)加粗一些課標(biāo)詞匯,讓他們利用上下的語(yǔ)境進(jìn)行語(yǔ)義的猜測(cè)。
材料1:
Forrest: We lived about a quarter mile off Route 17, about a half mile from the town of Greenbow, Alabama. Thats in the county of Greenbow. Our house had been in Mamas family since her grandpas grandpas grandpa had come across the ocean about a thousand years ago. Since it was just me and Mama and we had all these empty rooms, Mama decided to those rooms , mostly to people passing through, like form Mobile, Montgomery, places like that. Thats how I and Mama got money. Mama was a real lady.
Mrs. Gump: Remember what I told you, Forrest. Youre no different than anybody else is.
Mrs. Gump: Did you hear what I said, Forrest? Youre the same as everybody else. (Principals office)
Principal: Your boys... different, Mrs. Gump. Now, his I.Q. is
.
Mrs. Gump: Well, we're all different, Mr. Hancock.
Principal: I want to show you something, Mrs. Gump. Now, this is
. Forrest is right here. The state a
I.Q. of eighty to attend public school, Mrs. Gump. Hes gonna have to go to . Now, hell be just fine.
Mrs. Gump: What does normal mean, ? He might be a bit , but my boy Forrest is going to get the same opportunities as everyone else. He's not going to some special school to learn to how to re-tread . Were talking about five little points here. There must be something can be done.
Principal: Were a progressive school system. We dont want to see anybody .
Principal: Is there a Mr. Gump, Mrs. Gump?
Mrs. Gump: Hes .
Vocabulary:

(2)根據(jù)對(duì)白捕捉詞匯
在材料1的語(yǔ)段中,讓學(xué)生連續(xù)欣賞兩遍后,把語(yǔ)段補(bǔ)充完整。即時(shí)的捕捉對(duì)白有利于加深學(xué)生對(duì)這些英語(yǔ)詞匯的記憶。
(3)通過(guò)修辭理解語(yǔ)言
在本段視頻中,有一些具有深層意義的句子,可以請(qǐng)學(xué)生結(jié)合內(nèi)容來(lái)理解以下劃線(xiàn)部分的內(nèi)容,加深對(duì)短語(yǔ)和句子的理解,為運(yùn)用奠定基礎(chǔ)。
①Principal: Hes going to have to go to a special school. (a school for the low-IQ children)
②Mrs. Gump: He might be a bit on the slow side. (He might not be quick-witted.)
讓學(xué)生感受到這些句子都運(yùn)用了一種語(yǔ)言現(xiàn)象——委婉語(yǔ),接著介紹委婉語(yǔ)的定義和分類(lèi),擴(kuò)大詞匯。
Definition: A euphemism is a kind of expressing method which aims at making people feel less embarrassed by using some agreeable words instead of those which may make people feel unpleasant and not respected. Euphemisms can mainly be grouped into three categories:For taboo(避諱);For cover(掩飾);For politeness (禮貌)。
2. 英文影視欣賞中詞匯的內(nèi)化
一個(gè)單詞要在不同的語(yǔ)境下出現(xiàn)5~16次,學(xué)習(xí)者才有可能記住。為了提高學(xué)生在影視教學(xué)中的詞匯學(xué)習(xí)效果,教師可根據(jù)影視材料構(gòu)建問(wèn)題情境,并且設(shè)計(jì)多種形式的活動(dòng),反復(fù)出現(xiàn)課標(biāo)詞匯,加深學(xué)生的印象。
(1)詞匯的復(fù)現(xiàn)
復(fù)述影片內(nèi)容、根據(jù)關(guān)鍵詞匯、詞組和有用的表達(dá)方式,讓學(xué)生來(lái)復(fù)述影片內(nèi)容;角色扮演、多次觀(guān)看同一片段后進(jìn)行對(duì)白模仿、角色扮演,既可以提高學(xué)生的理解能力,也能鍛煉口語(yǔ)表達(dá)能力;佳句欣賞背誦、選取美文佳句,讓學(xué)生欣賞理解、背誦,做到脫口而出。
(2)詞匯的創(chuàng)造性使用
①一詞多義
在這一語(yǔ)段中主要關(guān)注的是委婉語(yǔ),這既是一種語(yǔ)言現(xiàn)象,更是一種文化現(xiàn)象。學(xué)生在學(xué)了這一修辭后,能更了解西方的文化現(xiàn)象,也能擴(kuò)大同一意義表達(dá)的詞匯量。
翻譯: I used to think I was poor, then they told me I wasnt poor; I was needy. Then they said it was self-defeating to think of myself as needy, that I was culturally deprived. Then they told me deprived was a bad image, that I was underprivileged. Then they told me that underprivileged was overused, that I was disadvantaged. I still dont have a dime-but I have a great vocabulary!
②遷移使用
根據(jù)以上對(duì)委婉語(yǔ)的講解,讓學(xué)生用英語(yǔ)來(lái)解釋以下劃線(xiàn)部分內(nèi)容。
You are putting on weight.(becoming fat)
Now she is eating for two. (pregnant)
The old man lay taking his rest after a life of bitter hardship.(dead)
The young lady has married that bookseller who has one foot in the grave.
(is very old/ is dying/ at the point of death)
③情景活用
把委婉語(yǔ)放到語(yǔ)境中,根據(jù)它的定義和用法,教師給出一定場(chǎng)景,讓學(xué)生來(lái)運(yùn)用。
In the middle of the dinner, you have drunk too much water and want to go to the toilet.
總之,詞匯附帶習(xí)得是通過(guò)聽(tīng)、說(shuō)、讀、寫(xiě)等活動(dòng),有意識(shí)地引導(dǎo)學(xué)生注意詞頻較高或大綱內(nèi)提出具體學(xué)習(xí)要求的詞匯,從而達(dá)到增大詞匯量的效果。而英文影視教學(xué)能夠創(chuàng)建真實(shí)的語(yǔ)言學(xué)習(xí)環(huán)境,對(duì)促進(jìn)學(xué)生詞匯學(xué)習(xí)興趣和學(xué)習(xí)效果有著積極的作用。
