At the eleventh hour是什么意思？

這個(gè)短語(yǔ)的字面意思是“第11小時(shí)”。它來(lái)自《圣經(jīng)·新約·馬太福音》中耶穌對(duì)門(mén)徒講的一則寓言。Eleventh hour既不是指上午11點(diǎn)，也不是指夜晚11點(diǎn)，而是相當(dāng)于日落前的下午5點(diǎn)，即白天12小時(shí)工作日的“第11小時(shí)”。后來(lái)被喻指“最后時(shí)刻”。因此，at the eleventh hour現(xiàn)在用來(lái)表示“在最后時(shí)刻”，有時(shí)還引申為“在緊要關(guān)頭”，而eleventh-hour decision則指“在最后一刻作出的決定”。
