In May of this year, after 2018 Chongqing image promotion video advertisement and 17 beautiful print advertisements were launched, they immediately went viral in the friends circle. They were also seen in various business districts, light rails, bus stops and outdoor billboards. These beautiful and splendid photos highlighted Chongqing's extremely good-looking "physiognomy" and its unique temperament.
They were all shoot by Zhang Kunkun.
In the next month, Zhang Kunyi resigned as highpaid designer and switched to be a freelance city landscape photographer.
Sufficient reasons support his such decision. Although he is only 35 years old, he has been shooting Chongqing for 18 years. He traveled all over Chongqing and is familiar with its every corner. The growth of Chongqing was witnessed by his lens. Citizens are shown a familiar and unnoticed Chongqing from his unique perspective.
Every Time of Pressing the Shutter Is with Great Cautious
When Zhang Kunkun was born, his father bought a "Hongmei120" leather folding camera to record his growth. That camera is still in his home, but the casing has already rusted.
Under the influence of his father, Zhang Kunkun has been keen on photography since he was a child. But in the 1980s and 1990s, photography was a luxury hobby. "At that time, photos were taken with film cameras. A roll of Kodak film took more than 20 Yuan, but can only take 36 photos. And another 20 Yuan would be taken to print them." Zhang Kunkun recalled.
Therefore, his each shutter was extremely cautious.
Zhang Kunkun was serious and cautious to press the shutter every time. Even with digital camera, his shooting habit is not changed—each photo is planned.
Zhang Kunkun said that preparations would be more effective than impromptu shootings. "I have to consider the weather and direction, research the spot in advance, record the position and direction, and plan the shooting ideas. These are all indispensable. ”
A Set of Photos Took Two Whole Years
On July 5, 2017, Zhang Kunkun posted a group of pictures named Rhythm of Green Chongqing on his micro-blog. This group of 9 pictures took his two years.
In these pictures, light rails and viaducts were laid in green as musical notes flow in the mountains. What a unique and peculiar scenery to the mountain city.
"Chongqing has a very high forest coverage and good greening, and the light rail is a very unique mode of transportation. ” In 2015, Zhang Kunkun planned to shoot a set of green traffic.
It seems easy, but the requirements to the season and weather are very strict. The time should not be in winter and autumn, because the vegetation is not lush enough, and there are leaves in other colors. Spring is also not available since leaves of ficus virens begin to fall. In addition, it needs a good weather.
"This one was photoed at the fourth time after I went all over Fotu Pass and Eling Park to find a desirable position. So I did climb mountains and high buildings. But I still don't think it is perfect. It could be better. Zhang Kunkun recalled.
In August, 2016, Zhang Kunkun photoed a group of charming pictures of Hong Ya Dong from 12 different perspectives. Nearly 7 million people viewed these pictures and countless of them were conquered by the fantastic night scenes. "I spent only half a month shooting them, but it cost me more than one year to select an excellent position and wait for a good weather. ”
Waiting for the "New Face" of Chongqing's"Old Appearance"
For a long time before, Zhang Kunkun didn't restrict the subject.
He used to photo people. But he found some problems later. "Many people would ask me to'give them good-looking photos', but I prefer real pictures of their lives. " Zhang Kunkun said.Although his pictures of people are highly praised,he is not satisfied with them because they are empty of the true state of life.
Zhang Kunkun was admitted to Sichuan Fine Art Institute in 2000. And his father spent 5, 000 yuan buying him a "seagull" camera.
In his four years in college, this camera photographed all streets and alleys of Chongqing, as well as the scenes of lives hidden in them.
Shibati Street is his favorite shooting place."At that time, Zhongxing Road had a flea market, and people sold all kinds of their collections, even washbasins and seals. There was a vegetable market in the Houci Street, which was very lively in the market day. " Zhang Kunkun liked to pick up old goods and take photos in Shibati Street and Houci Street.
As time went by, Chongqing has changed a lot in Zhang Kunkun's lenses. High-rise buildings increasingly fill Chongqing, and the city is becoming more and more beautiful. Zhang Kunkun's lens has focused on the city scenery.
Zhang Kunkun once sighed that many old photos of Chongqing were all taken from Nanshan Mountain. It rarely had position for overlooking. "But this difficulty has benn resolved today " Zhang Kunkun said. When Chongqing World Financial Centre (WFC)was not fully completed in 2015, he dreamed of climbing this tall building and photoing the city.
"If didn't take photos at the top of the Chongqing, how could we know about this city?" WFC has a total of 78 floors and is 339 meters high. He once climbed the building step by step overlooking Chongqing.
He becomes one of the members of "high building climber" that is a photography group who climes high buildings to shoot Chongqing. In Zhang Kunkun's view, the meaning of climbing high buildings is to explore this city.
He is now expecting the completion of"Chaotianmen Complex". He's very curious about the look of Zhongyu Peninsula and Chongqing City from the perspective of this "Complex". He also looks forward to the city's future.
