Written by Michael Kunze and Sylvester Levay， Rebecca is a new musical in German drawn from the classic Daphne Du Maurier novel of the same name about love and obsession reaching from beyond the grave. This romantic thriller tells us a knit story revolving around a temperamental （喜怒無常的） widower （鰥夫） Maxim De Winter， his naive new wife， a beautiful but common woman， and Mrs Danvers， who is the housekeeper of Maxim's Cornish estate （莊園）. In Monte Carlo， the two meet occasionally and fall in love with each other at the first sight. And then they get married， and move into Maxim' s English Estate. However， the young wife finds Mrs Danvers has never gotten over the death of Maxim's first wife， Rebecca， and shows continuous disrespect toward her. Later， Maxim becomes the prime （首要的） suspect， when Rebeca's boat with her dead body is found. Luckily， his wife stands by him and detects his ex-wife' s intrigue （陰謀） of turning suicide （自殺） into murder， so Maxim is cleared. However， they must face a terrible finale （結(jié)局） that their house is burned down by and with Mrs Danvers.

This mysterious musical is worth appreciating for its imagination reserved for spectators. What is important is to expose the ugly truth of the British upper class： hedonism （享樂主義）， intrigues， hypocrisy （偽善） among others. The play had its world premiere （首映） in 2006 at Raimund Theater in Vienna， Austria. Subsequent productions of Rebecca have also achieved their vast success， playing in Budapest， Hungary; Helsinki， Finland; Bucharest， Romania; Stuttgart， Germany; St. Gallen， Switzerland and at the Imperial Theatre in Tokyo included.
