Japan Airlines has adopted measures that accommodate Japan's rapidly aging labor workforce,and improving labor efficiency through the use of technology has helped cut working hours. CFO Norikazu Saito said, "We let employees carry tablets [and] smart phones so that they can work outside the office or at home if they wish to," Saito explained. As for the future of the company, which has undergone a series of restructures in recent years,Saito said profitability and efficiency were renewed points of focus.

The company is now moving towards a much brighter future, as it begins to focus on attracting a much younger client base. “The biggest challenge for us is that we’ve got very loyal, longstanding customers, so now we’re trying to capture the attention of young people. One of his main aims is to try and blend “innovation with our tradition, the heritage, and our client services”, which he believes is a mix that can’t be found among the competition. “We take the glass half-full approach. We analyse what we have and see how we can build on it, rather than focusing on what we don’t have.”
