連詞although和though意為“盡管;雖然”,都可以引導(dǎo)讓步狀語從句。although與though一般情況下可以通用,但though多用于口語,although較為正式。例如:
Although / Though I know it’s difficult, I still want to have a try. 盡管知道很難,但我還是要試一試。
I really enjoyed your speech although / though I didn’t quite understand some parts of it.
我很喜歡你的演講,雖然有些地方我不太明白。
在使用時,我們還應(yīng)該注意以下幾點:
1. 當(dāng)although或though引導(dǎo)的從句放在句首時,主從句要用逗號隔開。例如:
Although / Though the kitchen is small, it is well designed. 廚房雖然小,可是設(shè)計得很好。
2. although和though都不能與but連用,但可以和still或yet連用。例如:
譯:雖然我們盡了最大努力,但還是輸了比賽。
正:We still lost the game although / though we tried our best.
正:Although / Though we tried our best, we still lost the game.
誤:Although / Though we tried our best, but we still lost the game.
3. 在下列情況下,只能用though:
⑴ though能和as組合構(gòu)成詞組as though(好像),但although不能。例如:
You look as though you know each other. 看起來你們好像彼此認(rèn)識。
⑵ though能和even組合構(gòu)成詞組even though(即使;雖然),表示強調(diào),但although不能。例如:
Even though I didn’t know anybody at the party, I had a good time.
雖然參加晚會的人我一個也不認(rèn)識,但我還是玩得很愉快。
She won’t leave the TV set, even though her supper’s on the table.
即使晚餐已擺在桌子上了,她也不愿離開電視機。
(3)though還可用作副詞,常放在句末或句子中間,用逗號分隔,意為“但是,不過,然而”,而although沒有這種用法。例如:
I don’t think he is a bad chap, though. 但是,我不認(rèn)為他是個壞家伙。
The grapes, though, may be sour. 不過,這些葡萄可能還是酸的。
