英語中“代替”的表達(dá)法有很多,現(xiàn)將其種種表達(dá)法歸納并舉例如下,供同學(xué)們在復(fù)習(xí)時(shí)參考。
1. instead of意為“代替”“而不是”。如:
He will go instead of you.
He stayed at home instead of going to the station.
2. instead意為“代替”“反而”“而”,是副詞,放于句首或句末。如:
She never studies, instead, she plays tennis all day.
Your teacher is ill today; Ill give you lessons, instead.
3. stead意為“代替”,是名詞。如:
If you cant come, send her in your stead.
4. in (the) stead of意為“代替”(=instead of)。如:
Who will go to Beijing to attend the meeting in the stead of Mr. Zhang?
5. in place of意為“代替”,相當(dāng)于instead of。如:
Roft had to work as blacksmith in place of his lazy father. 羅夫特只得代替他懶惰的父親去當(dāng)鐵匠。
We use gas in place of coal in cooking.
6. in ones place意為“代替”(=in place of)。如:
Our monitor is away, Im acting in his place. 班長不在,我代替他的職務(wù)。
Ill go to Wuhan in his place.
7. take the place of意為“代替”,作謂語,用在名詞、代詞前。如:
Tractors have taken the place of horses in many places. 在許多地方,拖拉機(jī)代替了馬。
Who will take the place of Mr. Smith?
8. take ones place意為“代替、接替”(=take the place of)。如:
Tom will take the chairmans place. 湯姆將代理主席。
Your maths teacher is ill, so Ill take his place to give you a maths lesson.
9. for意為“替、代替”,多用于口語,作為介詞放在名詞、代詞前。如:
Please post this letter for me.
Let me do it for you.
10. stand for意為“代替、代表”,作謂語。如:
He stands for his boss to attend the meeting.
VIP stands for Very Important Person. VIP表示“非常重要的人”。
11. replace意為“代替,取代”,作謂語。如:
Can anything replace a mothers love and care?
Do you think there will be a day when computers replace the human brain?
12. replacement意為“代替,取代”,是名詞。如:
Can you get a replacement while you are away? 你不在時(shí)能找到人代替你嗎?
13. substitute意為“代替”,作謂語。如:
You can substitute margarine for butter. 你可以用人造奶油來代替奶油。
14. substitute for意為“代替”,此時(shí),substitute是不及物動(dòng)詞,與for搭配。如:
He substituted for the typist during her absence. 打字員不在時(shí)由他代替。
15. in lieu of意為“代替”,相當(dāng)于instead of。如:
