      The function of context in English reading comprehension

      【摘 ?要】從今年的中考英語模式來看,閱讀理解的分數(shù)越來越大,考題在學生閱讀能力中的比重越來越大,閱讀材料的難度也逐年增加。然而,閱讀理解一直是學生的薄弱環(huán)節(jié)。學生對這篇文章的理解不夠,在考試中失去了更嚴重的分數(shù)。究其原因一方面是讀書有抵觸心理,缺乏信心。針對這一現(xiàn)象和學生的狀況,我在課堂上特別注意學生閱讀能力的培養(yǎng)和閱讀方式和技能的練習。

      Abstract:From the mode of English in this year's middle school entrance examination,the score of reading comprehension has become larger,the proportion of test questions on students' reading capacity has increased,and the reading materials have become more difficult year by year. However,reading comprehension has always been a weak link for students. Students' comprehension of the article is not sufficient,and they lose more serious marks in the exam. Investigate its reason on the one hand is to read have resistance to psychology,lack of confidence. ?In view of this phenomenon and the condition of students,I pay special attention to the cultivation of students' reading capacity and the exercise of reading ways and technical ability in class.

      Introduction:

      Many English learners often ask this question when they read English articles:I know every word in this statement,but how can I not know the significance of this statement? We can answer this question from several aspects. First of all,he may not be clear about the analysis of statement structure. In fact,it may be because he is not familiar with the usage of some fixed collocations. Thirdly,it may be that he is not familiar with the especial significance of a word in the statement.

      1、The principal issues existing in students' English reading at present

      1.1 The teachers issues

      1.1.1 Lack of overall concept,resulting in students' passive acceptance of learning.

      1.1.2. Pay attention to one-side issues and ignore the improvement of students' reading technical ability.

      1.2 Students issues

      Slow reading speed and lack of good English reading habits.

      It is a common issue for junior high school students to read English articles slowly. Part of the reason is that some junior high school students have insufficient word,especially it is difficult to memorize all the words with various significances.

      2. The function of context

      The language environment is playing in an important part. Interpretative function refers to the role of language environment in the listeners understanding of utterance. The function is to help readers to know the message details of the utterance. For the understanding of works,we should master from two grades of utterance significance,namely,the significance contained in grammar and semantics and the significance contained in pragmatic analysis.

      3. The significance of context to English reading

      As one of the most important fields of English teaching,English reading teaching is a very important part of improving students' English grade. If teachers consider and use language environment elements in English reading teaching,they will get better results. According to the author's relevant investigation,it is found that there are two issues in students' reading:inaccurate understanding of the article and slow reading speed.

      4. How to implement the teaching of reading comprehension with the help of context

      We have introduced the function of language environment and its restriction on reading comprehension. They are actually complementary and inseparable. The whole teachingcourse of reading comprehension is a whole,which needs to be carried out according to some of teaching procedures. We can take the following three stages of reading teaching procedures with the help of language environment:the first stage:macro introduction. This stage aims to make students know the definition and function of context. The second stage:micro analysis. It principally involves the classification of context and how to use it in the teaching of reading comprehension.The third stage:overall absorption. Theobjective of this stage is to enable students to apply what they have learned,achieve the expectedobjective,truly know the structure of the article,know the principal idea of the original article,and finally improve their reading comprehension capacity.

      5. Conclusion

      To sum up,in English reading teaching,middle school students are always the principal body of learning,and teachers only effectively guide students,improve students' capacity to know and do questions is the key.
